Briney Swine: 843-631-1460 (2.5 mile drive)

www.brinyswine.com 3731 Dockside Rd

Just a 5 minute drive from the Beach Ball. The Briney Swine pays homage to two favorite southern past times, pig picking and oyster roasts. Hopefully you will get lucky enough to snag a table with a beautiful view. This is one of our personal favorite places to go.

Coots Bar and Grill: 843-631-1366 (.3 miles from the Beach Ball)

https://m.facebook.com/pages/category/Bar---Grill/Coots-Bar-Grill-387627578318111/. 102 Palmetto Blvd

Just a 1 minute drive or 6 minute walk to this casual watering hole with a view and small pier. There’s a lot going on here. It’s a bar, with bar food, a large souvenir store, and a place called Pelican’s Pizza that you can order from the bar. I would go for the view and a drink. Food is what you would expect. They have live entertainment in a small venue on most weekends. Reviews are mixed quite often. We have been a few times and our service was great and we enjoyed ourselves.

Edingsville Grocery & Resturant: 843-869-9728 (3.8 miles from the BB)

https://edingsville.com. 1084 Hwy. 174

Just outside of the island, a 5 minute drive to this low Country inspired cuisine created with ingenuity and passion, inspired by the fantastic flavors of both of Carolinas. They take great pride in improving upon your favorite Southern dishes in classically and new, creative ways.

http://www.ellaandollies.com 21Fairview Dr

A 7 minute ride to a bit fancier option on the island. They do take reservations. A southern spin on local seafood dishes and more. Every dish on their menu looks amazing. Try locally grown Marsh Hen Mill grits while you dine. Another concept by the owner’s of Briney Swine. I have seen many wonderful reviews from here.

Flowers Seafood Truck and Seafood Market: 843-869-0033 (6.6 miles from The Beach Ball)

https://flowersseafood.com. 1914 Hwy 174

This place is not to be missed; just a short 9 minute drive. The Flowers family have been commercially fishing and serving fresh, local seafood on Edisto Island for four generations. If you are getting prepared food from the food truck, be prepared to stand in line and eat outside under a covered area with picnic tables, in your car, or take it back to the house. Truth be told, it is 100% worth the wait. My favorite is their calamari. I call it carpool calamari because I get it and share it in my car with friends. The crab cakes, hushpuppies, and more are excellent. We purchased their medium raw shrimp inside the market and the price was better than anywhere else I have purchased from and they were delicious. They also will prepare things like low country boil for you to pick up. Check out their website for more details. Hours and days open are limited.Check before you go. Visit their restaurant,The Waterfront Resturant on the island on 136 Jungle Rd.

McConkey’s jungle Shack: 843-869-0097 (.6 miles from The Beach Ball)

www.mcconkeysjungleshack.com 108 Jungle Rd

A 6 minute drive to this location voted by Southern Living as one of South Carolina’s top 10 best seafood spots. This local dive bar and Resturant has a long history here. Housed in a former gas station that was once the only place to get fresh water or make a phone call for 45 miles. We love the mahimahi bites, oysters, and the crab stuffed bacon wrapped fried shrimp.

Once you have arrived, there is a kiosk to pick up a free day pass for your car. This is truly a must do when staying on Edisto. This is a beautiful adventure waiting for you. Gather all the shells and sharks teeth you can find. But, make sure to leave them there for the next guests. Take part in arranging shells in the sun bleached trees. Taking anything with you is prohibited. A wonderful spot for photo opportunities. Probably a good idea to go outside the peak of summertime heat and bugs. Pack sunscreen and bug spray. No bathroom…Closed on Tuesdays and for special events.

Serpentarium 2022:

https://edistoserpentarium.com/

Included in your stay is a free pass for either 2 adults and two kids or 1 adult and 3 kids. 10% off additional tickets. It is a seasonal business; Thursday-Saturday, 10-4) so check out their website for dates open. You will mainly find snakes, alligators, turtles, bearded dragons and more. There are various events and live feedings scheduled throughout the day.

Opened to the public in July of 1999, the Edisto Island Serpentarium is a culmination of more than 50 years of snake hunting adventure and experience by brothers Ted and Heyward Clamp of Edisto Island, SC. The modern indoor facility and beautifully landscaped outdoor gardens house a wide variety of reptiles, mostly those collected by the Clamp brothers and native to the southeastern United States.

The reptiles in the outdoor gardens are not displayed behind glass but are viewed by visitors who look over low-walled enclosures to observe the snakes living in streams, climbing in trees or basking on stumps or logs exactly as they would be seen if encountered in the wild. The exhibit was purposely designed in this order hopefully to give visitors the same thrill and exhilaration which the Clamp brothers have enjoyed for years and still feel whenever they suddenly encounter a reptile in its natural habitat.
